Chickens first snow
Last night and today it snowed in Derbyshire although it was nothing new to us, it was for the girls Posh and Pecks as they have never seen snow.
I got home from work at 3.30pm and made up their afternoon treat of bokashi bran mixed with Bill Oddies mealworm crumble, poultry spice and garlic and went out to see them.
As usual both girls were pleased to see me as I appeared from the whiteness, I opened the chicken run door thinking they wouldn’t come out…. To my surprise both girls came out looking at me as to say where are the treats without realising they were stood in four inches of snow for the first time.
It was funny to see their reaction to the snow, because even though I had meal worms in my hand they were totally distracted by it.
They venture around the garden whilst I stood freezing, so I decided to place their treat in the chicken run thinking they would prefer to be inside but I was wrong they wanted to eat it outside.
After about 15 minutes of cleaning the eglu poo tray I thought enough is enough my feet were ice cold and tried to persuade the girls back in with mealworms but they were not having it, they wanted to stay out!
In the end I had to pick both chickens up and place them back in the chicken run, they were not happy girls…..god did they let me know.
